저는 청각장애가 있습니다. 그리고 성인이 되고나서 수어를 배웠어요. 저의 제1언어는 한국어입니다. 제2언어는 한국수어고요. 세계에는 정말로 다양한 사람이 있습니다. 수어는 세계적으로 같은 수어를 쓰지 않습니다. 이 말은 같은 언어를 쓰지 않는다는 것이죠. 우리가 영어, 일본어, 한국어, 스페인어 등 국가마다 다른 언어를 쓰는 것처럼요. 이건 Non-Deaf에게 해당되는 말입니다. 수어도 마찬가지입니다. 미국수어, 한국수어, 일본수어, 프랑스수어 등 나라마다 사용하는 수어가 다릅니다. 언어이기 때문이죠. 저는 수어를 배우기 전에는 이런 내용을 전혀 몰랐습니다. 그저 막연하게 '나중에 수어를 배워보고 싶다'는 생각을 했을 뿐입니다. 손으로 쪼물락 거리기만 했죠. 하지만 사실 수어는 손으로 쪼물락거리는 언어가 아닙니다. 손이라는 수지와, 손을 제외한 모든 것인 비수지 즉, 얼굴과 몸까지 다 아울러야 전달할 수 있는 언어입니다. 수어야말로 정말 고차원적인 언어라고 할 수 있죠. 마임과도 전혀 다른. 고유한 문법체계를 가진 언어입니다. 사람들은 수어를 만만하게 봅니다. 하지만 수어야말로 정말 어려운 언어예요. 많은 사람들이 이걸 알았으면 좋겠습니다.

I'm hard of hearing, and I learned sign language as an adult. My first language is Korean. My second language is Korean Sign Language. There are so many different people in the world. We don't speak the same sign language all over the world, which means we don't speak the same language. Just like we speak different languages in different countries, like English, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, etc. This is true for non-deaf people. The same goes for sign language. There's American Sign Language, Korean Sign Language, Japanese Sign Language, French Sign Language, and so on. I didn't know any of this stuff before I started learning sign language, I just vaguely thought, "I want to learn sign language later." I didn't know any of this stuff before I started learning sign language. But actually, sign language is not a hand-to-hand language. It's a language that you have to communicate with your hands, which is the resin, and your non-resin, which is everything outside of your hands, your face, your body. It's a really high level language. It's not like mime. It's not like mime at all. It's a language with its own grammar system. People think that sign language is easy. But it's a very difficult language, and I want people to realize that.
If you're thinking about learning Sign Language, there's probably a place near you where you can learn it. There's probably one near where you live. Seoul has the most famous one. I'll leave the link below.
Search the internet for Deaf Power and look at what we are. Look at the people with pride.
Let us enjoy cultural events. Don't make sign language interpretation and captioning an inconvenience.
Don't be bothered by people taking notes when ordering at restaurants and cafes. Don't make them feel uncomfortable. Don't talk back to people who are writing, but write it down on paper.
Don't resent people in wheelchairs on subways and buses - let them go about their daily lives.
