"Why do printers never work?"
Have you ever dealt with a printer that just wouldnβt work? Yes, of course! :)
The printer is the most pervasive (and frustrating) example of technology that doesn't work in our everyday lives. Everyone knows the situation where a printer doesn't do what was originally intended with the print job.
Printers seem to be the technology that continuously causes frustration among users. joak has been researching this issue over the last years, and in this lecture, weβll get a preliminary answer to our daily printer frustrations.
Furthermore, joak will present several modified printing devices and how they can be used as a performative device. With this approach, printers are not understood as isolated technologies but as an instrument.
After all, printing should be fun.
joak (Joseph Knierzinger) s an artist working with obsolete media/technologies/trash to create anachronistic, fictitious timelines. Humor and irony is an important method in his undertakings. He creates compositions, devices, games, installations, interventions, instruments, lectures, performances, performance-lectures, scores and software. He is member of the Zentrum fΓΌr Wurfkeramik and work on different alogisms and algorithms in Linz (AT). He is busy with broken printers at the moment and is starting the parasitic institute βBroken Media Lab.β
